What is this site about?

Welcome to the Deutsches Essen Web site. This site follows two characters, Ulrike and Fatima, as they plan, shop for, and prepare a German meal for some guests they have invited. The videos in the Einkaufen, Kochen, Tisch decken, and Guten Appetit! sections of the site allow you to observe Fatima and Ulrike at each stage of the process. The activities in the site will help you assess your comprehension of the videos and use the new knowledge you have gained.

Who is this site for?

This Web site is designed for German learners in their second or third semester of college instruction. If you are unsure if your German is advanced enough for this site, page through the Vokabelaufbau section to preview the vocabulary you will encounter, and page through a few of the pages in the Einkaufen or Kochen sections of the Web site to see if you can follow along with the instructions and the activities.

How should I use this site?

We recommend that you page through this site in a linear fashion. The site was designed with the assumption that learners would experience the various activities in the site in the order in which they are presented. Returning users may enter the site at whatever point they wish, but we encourage new users to start at the beginning and proceed step by step.
