Constructing a Personal Philosophy of Teaching

To get started in developing your own personal philosophy of teaching,

  1. Read an overview of why you might want to write a statement summarizing your philosophy.
  2. Look at some examples. Avoid examples from your own field.
  3. Read two different sets of prompts to give you an idea of what to think about:
    1. Reflection cues
    2. Topics to consider including
  4. I have some suggestions on format, as well.
  5. Finally, post your draft philosophy statement to the bulletin board, under "philosophy."
