The
Iowa Society of Pediatric Dentistry (ISPD) is the state component of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.  The state component is a member of District IV.  There are currently 26 pediatric dentists in private practice in Iowa and 6 pediatric dentists on the faculty at The University of Iowa College of Dentistry.

The purpose of the ISPD is to represent the concerns of members at the state, district and national level and to lobby the local governmental agencies regarding issues that affect the oral health and well-being of children in Iowa.  Recent issues include the general anesthesia bill, resolution for the 1st visit by age one and increased reimbursement from Title XIX.

The annual meeting of the ISPD is held in conjunction with a continuing education course on a topic relevant to Pediatric Dentistry.  This year, the meeting and CE course will be held on September 13, 2002.  The speaker will be Dr. Cathy Flaitz, an Iowa alumnus with specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry and Oral Pathology.
