Brief Professional Resume:
Dr. Damiano joined the College of Dentistry in 1990. He is a professor in the Department of Preventive and Community Dentistry and Director, Health Policy Research, at the Public Policy Center.

Teaching Responsibilities: Dr. Damiano teaches both in the predoctoral and postdoctoral programs. For predoctoral students he primarily teaches in the areas of public health, legal and legislative issues, health insurance, health care delivery systems and quality of care. For postdoctoral students, he primarily teaches methods as well as mentors masters and doctoral level students.

Clinical Activities: Provides general dental care in the College of Dentistry, Special Care Clinic.

Research Activities: Dr. Damiano's area of research focuses on access to primary dental and medical care, quality of care, health policy, Medicaid and Medicare, maternal and child health issues, and assessment of health insurance plans. Current projects include evaluating the Iowa Medicaid managed care program (MediPASS); developing indicators to evaluate health plans; studying factors predicting dentist and physician participation in Medicaid and Medicare; physicians' attitudes toward nurse practitioners providing primary care; and Iowa physicians' attitudes toward managed care.

National or International Professional Appointments or Activities: Dr. Damiano is a member of the HRSA Regional VII Oral Health Advisory Panel, the National Advisory Committee of the National CAHPS Medicaid Database, the Research Committee of the Primary Care Fellowship Society, and the Clinical Advisory Committee of Iowa's State Child Health Insurance program. He is chair of the Oral Health Committee of Healthy Iowans 2010, a member of the Special Committee on Access to Dental Care as well as the Dental Medicaid Advisory Committee, Department of Human Services. Dr. Damiano is a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon, an honorary dental society, the Primary Care Fellowship Society, the American Association of Dental Schools, the American Association for Dental Research, the Association for Health Services Research, the American Association of Public Health Dentistry, the American Public Health Association, and the American Dental Association.
