Brief Professional Resume:
Dr. Kuthy joined the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in
1999. He is professor and head of the Department of Preventive
and Community Dentistry.
Teaching Activities: Dr. Kuthy serves as course director
for Administration of Public Dental Programs (111:205) and Field
Experience in Dental Public Health (111:208).
Research Activities: Dr. Kuthy's primary research interests
include dental sealant program analysis, oral health needs assessment
for local and state level policy development, and understanding
the predictors and outcomes of continuing dental education.
National or International Professional Appointments or Activities:
Dr. Kuthy is on the editorial board of Journal of Public Health
Dentistry. He is an ad hoc reviewer for Special Care in Dentistry;
Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology; Oral Surgery, Oral
Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology and Endodontics; Medical
Care, Journal of Aging and Health; and Journal of Public Health
Dentistry. Dr. Kuthy is a consultant for the American Dental Association
Commission on Dental Accreditation as well as the Association
of State and Territorial Dental Directors. Dr. Kuthy is Director
of the American Board Dental Public Health. He is the recipient
of the following national awards: President's Award of the American
Association of Public Health Dentistry (1997); Outstanding Achievement
Award from the Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors
(1997); and the Exemplary Service Award from the Chief Dental
Officer, U.S. Public Health Service (1995). Dr. Kuthy is a consultant
for the National Task Force on Community Preventive Services (Oral
Health), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Currently,
he is secretary-treasurer for the Behavioral Science/Health Services
Research Section, International Association for Dental Research,
and a Finance Committee member of the American Association of
Public Health Dentistry. Dr. Kuthy is a member of the Iowa Dental
Association, the Johnson County Dental Society, the Association
for Health Services Research, the American Association for Dental
Research, the American Association of Public Health Dentistry,
and the American Dental Association.
