Expanded Software Development Proposal (about 1000 words)

Deadline: Friday, October 9th, 2009, by noon uploaded to ICON Dropbox (Expanded Proposal Folder)

Please put your name and a page number in the header of your document.

The file should be named with the initial letter of your first name + your last name + "-expprop" (e.g., sotto-expprop).

The purpose of the expanded proposal is to describe in concrete terms the multimedia module you will be developing. The audience for this version is your fellow class members and, eventually, the colleagues who will attend the December 3rd (?) poster session.

Please use the following outline (including these headings):
  1. Abstract: General description of the module. (50 words)

  2. Instructional Goals: What general area(s) of language or culture will be addressed by your "module"? What skills will be addressed?

  3. Language and Level: What is the target language of your module and what assumptions will you make about the level of the learners/users?

  4. Context: What is the instructional context (course, textbook, syllabus)? What is the specific curricular setting within which learners will be assigned to use this module?

  5. Interaction Sequences: Describe in detail the types and sequence of activities the learner will engage in and the web pages or other texts to be used. Provide a rationale for your choices.

In addition to this narrative, please chart your activity plan using the Activity Chart, which can be downloaded from the Activity Chart link on the course homepage: www.uiowa.edu/~c16421. Please upload your chart document along with your Expanded Proposal document to the ICON Dropbox. If you wish, you may embed the chart into your Expanded Proposal document as a separate section. Please refer to the sample activity chart (available by clicking on the Example Chart link) to understand the chart headings.

  6. SLA and Multimedia References: List at least three articles or book chapters that will guide your courseware design/development effort and comment briefly about their relevance. (Your final project report at the end of the semester will contain a detailed assessment of these reference in the context of the project.)
