Text: Calculus (5th Edition) by James Stewart

Course Web Page: The web page is located at http://www.uiowa.edu/~c22m025c. Alternatively, you can go to the math department web page http://www.math.uiowa.edu click on "Courses", click on "Courses with Web Pages" and then click on "22M:025:DDD". On the course web page you will find the homework as it is assigned, as well as a copy of this syllabus, dates of exams, and a smattering of other things.

Note About Office Hours: I encourage you to come by my office if you have any questions, need help with homework problems, or would just like to talk about the material. You are welcome to come see me at times other than my office hours. If I am available, I will be more than happy to talk with you.

Grading: The components of the class are as follows

Hour Exam 1: 100
Hour Exam 2: 100
Final Exam: 150
Quizzes: 100
Homework: 50
Total: 500

Homework: Homework will be given every class period and will be due weekly in the recitation section (ask the TA for more details). Late homework is not permitted for any reason. I will drop your two lowest homework grades to allow for missed assignments. Expect to spend approximately 3 hours working on homework outside of class for every one hour spent in class. Homework will be listed on the course web page.

Weekly Quizzes: Once a week in the recitation section there will be a short 10 minute quiz to make sure you are keeping up with the homework. The types of problems on the quiz will be very similar in style to those assigned in the homework. Missing a quiz will result in a score of zero on that quiz. Your lowest quiz grade will be dropped when figuring out your final grade. The TA will give you more details about when the quizzes will be held.

Exams: There will be three exams: two midterm exams during the semester and one final exam at the end of the semester. The first two exams will be held Wednesday, Oct. 1 and Wednesday, Nov. 5. The final Exam will be held Friday, Dec. 19 from 7:30-9:30AM in Room 113 MLH. It is University of Iowa policy that final exams are not subject to rescheduling so please do not make plans to leave campus until after the final exam.

Hour Exam 1: Wednesday, Oct. 1, 11:30-12:20 in 113 MLH.
Hour Exam 2: Wednesday, Nov. 5, 11:30-12:20 in 113 MLH.
Final Exam: Friday, Dec. 19, 7:30-9:30AM in 113 MLH.

Excused Absences and Makeup Exams: The only excused absences for Exams are school-sponsored events and mandatory religious obligations (for a list of recognized religious occasions please call the registrar). In order to makeup an exam, you need to speak to me in advance and make arrangements to take the exam before (and not after) the rest of the class.

Honor Principal: University of Iowa students are expected to adhere to the honor principal. In this course this shall mean the following: Homework can and should be worked on and discussed with others. However, the write up should be independent. Exams shall be worked on independently. The exams are closed books and closed notes. CALCULATORS ARE NOT PERMITTED ON EXAMS.

Math Lab: The Math Lab, located in 314 MLH, is a drop-in tutorial service (no charge) staffed by Teaching Assistants from the Math Department.
