Campus Girl Scouts
Welcome to the homepage of the University of Iowa Campus Girl Scouts.
What are Campus Girl Scouts?
- the "official" definition
- our definition: a group of University students interested in working together whether on a service project, an international dinner, or a badge workshop for younger Girl Scouts
Who can join?
- anyone associated with the University of Iowa
- both males and females are welcome
- the only requirement: you must be willing to register as an Adult Girl Scout (the normal fee is usually waived)
- we currently consist of both undergraduates and graduate students
What to we do?
- cook meals at the Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City
- Fall 2005:
- Saturday brunch with eggs to order, pancakes and fruit salad
- Spring 2005:
- pasta bar with three different types of sauces
- Saturday brunch with eggs to order and french toast
- Fall 2004:
- chicken & veggie fajitas, mexican rice,
- three different soups with grilled cheese
- in prior years we've attempted lasanga, fruit pizza, chile, and the infamous chocolate chip cookie recipe from Dawn that seems to re-appear time and time again
- Fall 2005:
- run an annual Brownie (grades 1-3) Try-It workshop
- two Try-Its per workshop: one science-related and a second humanities-rich theme
- girls earn both Try-Its in a single afternoon
- we'll be running our 1st Cadette/Senior (6th-12th grade) Interest Patch workshop this fall
- Digging Through the Past is the Patch we've chosen
- workshop will be in conjunction with AAPG and SGE (Geology clubs on campus)
- theme-dinners
- "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" is our thought for what the Fall 2005 movies will be -- not set in stone yet!
- "Bend it Like Beckham" was chosen in Spring, 2005 -- we watched the movie & cooked the meal described in the DVD extras
- sell Girl Scout Cookies to support Head Start
- volunteer to help at APO's Girl Scout University in the fall and Merit Badge University (Boy Scouts) in the spring
