Why Get Involved?

Planning Objectives:

  • To bring people from different foreign and domestic cultures together to learn about, from and with each other.
  • To interest more Iowans in learning about cultures different than their own and to widen their cultural horizons.
  • To increase the number of students and scholars from under represented cultures in leadership positions.
  • To offer students from under-represented cultures the opportunity to share new and different aspects of their culture with members of the University and surrounding communities.
  • To publicize other cross-cultural programs and events.

Audience:
The audience for the “Celebrating Cultural Diversity Festival” is multifaceted. Organizers seek to attract the following:

  • UI students, faculty and staff
  • Members of the Iowa City/Coralville communities
  • People from surrounding communities
  • Primary and secondary school children from Iowa City, Coralville, and Cedar Rapids
  • Girl Scouts from the local communities

Publicity:

  • A comprehensive press release, which promotes the entire schedule and is distributed via University News Services to all area newspapers, TV, and radio stations in eastern Iowa.
  • Mailing to elementary (K-5) school teachers in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids.
  • Promotional materials in UI campus display cases.
  • Possible coverage on Channels 7 (KWWL), 2 (KGAN), and 9 (KCRG).
  • Flyers around UI campus, Iowa City and Coralville Transit Systems, and business establishments throughout the greater Iowa City/Coralville area.
