Celebrating Cultural Diversity Festival

Why Get Involved?

Planning Objectives:

  • To bring people from different foreign and domestic cultures together to learn about, from and with each other.
  • To interest more Iowans in learning about cultures different than their own and to widen their cultural horizons.
  • To increase the number of students and scholars from under represented cultures in leadership positions.
  • To offer students from under-represented cultures the opportunity to share new and different aspects of their culture with members of the University and surrounding communities.
  • To publicize other cross-cultural programs and events.

Audience:
The audience for the “Celebrating Cultural Diversity Festival” is multifaceted. Organizers seek to attract the following:

  • UI students, faculty and staff
  • Members of the Iowa City/Coralville communities
  • People from surrounding communities
  • Primary and secondary school children from Iowa City, Coralville, and Cedar Rapids
  • Girl Scouts from the local communities

Publicity:

  • A comprehensive press release, which promotes the entire schedule and is distributed via University News Services to all area newspapers, TV, and radio stations in eastern Iowa. (special section insert to appear in the Iowa City Press-Citizen)
  • Mailing to elementary (K-5) school teachers in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids.
  • Promotional materials in UI campus display cases.
  • Possible coverage on Channels 7 (KWWL), 2 (KGAN), and 9 (KCRG).
  • Flyers around UI campus, Iowa City and Coralville Transit Systems, and business establishments throughout the greater Iowa City/Coralville area.
