Keith Ruff

1. What is your role in CDA?
   • I am a community social and educational advocate and a community representative on Iowa’s Council on Disability Awareness.
     
     
2. What is your favorite thing about CDA?
   • Working with the next generation of disability advocates and leaders.
   
   
3. What is your position in the community?
   • Community Social and Educational Advocate, Access 2 Independence
     
     
4. What is your disability or condition, if any, if you are comfortable sharing?
   • Cerebral Palsy
   
   
5. What is your educational background?
   • Bachelor of Arts – History, 1980, The University of Iowa
   • Masters of Science – Rehabilitation and Counselor Education, 1987, The University of Iowa

6. What advice would you give to a colleague on campus who has a (DIS)ability?
   • Be a mentor, coach, and counselor to all students.
     
     
7. What advice would you give to a student on campus who has a (DIS)ability?
   • Be visible and get involved in anything and everything - not just disability-related issues.
     
     
8. Where is your favorite place to eat in town?
   • Giavanni and the Atlas
     
     
9. What is your favorite activity to do at UI?
   • Attending musicals and plays and watching women’s soccer matches, rugby matches, and softball games.
     
     
10. What best disability-related practices or changes do you recommend to better our campus?
    • Greater accessibility at sporting events (more accessible parking and seating)
    • Greater recognition of accomplishments from students with disabilities
    • Greater use of community services providers in serving students with disabilities.
