DescriptionEach summer, Accelerated Latin is offered for both undergraduate and graduate students wishing to take a year’s worth of Latin in an eight-week summer class. Using Wheelock’s Latin, students learn the fundamentals (forms, syntax, and vocabulary) while reading excerpts from ancient authors and learning about Roman history and culture. Students who complete the course are prepared to enter intermediate Latin.
Undergraduate students may register under the undergraduate numbers for either or both of the two classes. The first four-week class (20L:001) is the equivalent of the first semester of Latin; the second (20L:002) of a second-semester Latin course:

To apply, visit the Admissions website. Choose Apply --> nondegree --> undergraduate or graduate (depending on your status) --> if you have attended other colleges. This will bring you to a page that explains the application process. Read this page carefully, then click on the link for a Nondegree Student Application, and choose to download an application. (It is not possible to apply online as a nondegree student.) Follow the instructions for completing the application.
After you have been admitted you will receive a letter from Admissions containing your Hawk ID, which will allow you access to ISIS, the on-line registration system. Before you can register you will need to contact your academic advisor. If you are an undergraduate, call the Undergraduate Academic Advising Center at (319) 353-5700. They will tell you the name of your advisor, who will then be able to clear you for registration. If you are a graduate student, you will be advised by Caren Cox in the Graduate College, (319) 335-2135. She will provide you with a registration number. Once you have spoken to your advisor and either been cleared or received your registration number, you will be able to register on ISIS, using the course numbers listed above.
If you have any further questions, please email the department secretary (classics@uiowa.edu) or Marcia Lindgren.
