The College of Liberal Arts honors its most distinguished alumni with the Alumni Fellow award, based on nominations from departments. The Department of Classics is honored to have the following alumni selected for this award.
Clyde D. Stoltenberg earned his his B.A. with highest distinction in classics from The University in 1969. As a UI student, he won the Lowden Prize in both Greek and Latin, an accomplishment that's as rare now as it was then. Stoltenberg went on to Harvard Law School, and in 1980 joined the faculty at the University of Kansas in business law. He traveled to China and other countries and became an expert in international business law. Since 1983, he has published or co-published 28 articles on various aspects of international business law and the politics of economics in the east. Stoltenberg is now the Barton Distinguished Chair in International Business at Wichita State University, and is also the Associate Director of the Center for International Business Advancement. His visit to campus September 5-8, 2007 included a public lecture entitled "Why the Greeks and Romans Mattered -- and Matter -- to Me."

Mr. Hulme, a 1974 graduate of our department, is currently a Program Manager at Sun Microsystems, Inc. in North Carolina. He visited campus September 8-9, 2005 to participate in the various Alumni Fellow activities. As part of his visit, Mr. Hulme gave a lecture to faculty and students in Classics titled "Top Ten Responses to the Question 'But What Are You Going to Do With a Classics Degree?'."
