Professor Dettmer is a professor of Classics and currently Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs and Curriculum in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences and Director of the College's Division of Interdisciplinary Programs. She has been a faculty member at The University of Iowa since 1976. She received a B.A. from Indiana University and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. Her publications include two books, Horace: A Study in Structure and Love by the Numbers: Form and Meaning in the Poetry of Catullus. In addition, she and Marcia Lindgren have co-authored A Workbook to Ayers' ENGLISH WORDS FROM LATIN AND GREEK ELEMENTS. She has completed a workbook and teacher's manual on AP Catullus with Lea Ann Osborne, and currently is working on a book-length monograph on the arrangement of Ovid's Amores. Her areas of interest are Latin poetry and poetry books.
