Rooms 1-3 and 76-93
of Eckstein Medical Research Building house the main laboratory of the
Central Microscopy Research Facilities. The main facility is available
for investigator usage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The main laboratory
houses the most comprehensive equipment holdings as well as staff offices.

- a Hitachi S-4800 scanning electron microscope
- a JEOL 1230 transmission electron microscope
- an Olympus BX-51 light microscope with digital camera
- an Olympus Stereoscope with fluorescence attachment
- an Asylum scanning probe microscope
- a Kratos Axis Ultra x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy system
- three ultramicrotomy stations
- a cryoultramicrotomy station
- four paraffin microtomy stations
- an automated tissue processor
- microwave processor
- a Sakura automated slide staining system
- a Leica cryosubstitution apparatus
- a Balzers freeze fracture system
- a Balzers high pressure freezing system
- two cryostats, one with cryo-jane system
- a laser capture microscope
- Spectral Karyotyping System
- Olympus IX-81 Inverted Light Microscope
- Leica TIRF system
Equipment located in our main laboratory is available for reservation
through the CMRF online signup system. Please note that this is not
a complete list of preparation equipment, if you are interested in beginning
