Marc Armstrong, a geographer by inclination and training, has worked at The University of Iowa since 1984, and is serving as Interim Chair of the Department of Communication Studies until June, 2012. He is currently a Professor and Collegiate Fellow in the Department of Geography, and has been Chair of that department since 2000. In a series of former incarnations he has also served as Interim Director of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Interim Chair of the Department of Asian and Slavic Languages and Literatures, and as Interim Director of the Division of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures. In CLAS, he did a one-semester stint as Interim Associate Dean for Research and has also served intermittently as a Dean’s Administrative Fellow. Armstrong’s research interests are varied. In a communication context, he is interested in developing new ways to represent statistical information on maps.
