The department’s academic counselor is available to assist you with developing an educational plan now that you have declared Communication Studies as a major  Your overall plan will incorporate how to satisfy your degree requirements as well as how to select courses to help you reach your career goals.  Communication Studies majors are encouraged to seek academic advising as often as needed or desired.

What should you expect when you see the Academic Counselor?

  • A review of your academic progress
  • Development of an educational plan
  • Information about major requirements, a second major or a minor or certificate
  • Identification of courses you could take to reach 120 semester hours

Other important reasons to see your Academic Counselor

  • Obtain the required signature(s) for Add & Drop forms
  • Receive necessary approval to add, drop or change sections of ALL communication courses
  • Verify completion of degree requirements for graduation
  • Verify transfer credits for Study Abroad
  • Questions regarding searching for an internship and registration for internship credit

When should you see the Academic Counselor

  • Several weeks to a month before early registration begins
  • Sooner rather than later!!
  • The semester before you plan on graduating
  • If you are struggling in a course and need further guidance
