Outreach
Friends Day
On October 20, 2007, the Department of Speech Pathology & Audiology and the Friends Organization co-sponsored a “Friends Day” in the Wendell Johnson Speech & Hearing Center. Friends is a national organization created to provide a network of support for children and teenagers who stutter, their families and the professionals who work with them. “Friends Day” was a chance for local children and teenagers who stutter and their families to meet with speech-language pathologists for group sessions, continuing education and fun!

Workshop for SLP's
During alternating years, Tricia Zebrowski and Toni Cilek teach a two-week workshop for specialists sponsored by the Stuttering Foundation. The workshop has been now offered for the third time at The University of Iowa; the next is scheduled for 2009. The course is designed for speech-language pathologists who are interested in specializing in the treatment of stuttering in children and adults. Admission is by application only, and selected participants are funded through the Stuttering Foundation which covers room, board, tuition and travel expenses. Past courses have been attended by speech-language pathologists from the U.S. and around the world, including Japan, Taiwan, New Zealand, Italy, Russia, Turkey and Thailand.
