Why study at Iowa?
In this day and age, many university and college departments of communication disorders have faculty who are assigned to teach and do clinical work across a number of areas. In addition, these departments frequently offer courses that combine disorders, for example, a course in voice and fluency. This is not the case at The University of Iowa. What sets us apart from many other programs is that we have faculty, research and clinical resources devoted solely to the study of stuttering.
If you are interested in stuttering, the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at The University of Iowa is for you. We offer stand-alone undergraduate and graduate courses in the nature and treatment of stuttering, as well as opportunities for directed readings and research registration with a focus on stuttering. Undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in research practicum will work in the labs of the Stuttering Research Project under the guidance of Dr. Patricia Zebrowski. Student researchers have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of research experiences including data collection and analysis using state-of-the-art methods. For students interested in honing their clinical skills with children and families who stutter, there are numerous observation and practicum opportunities with all age groups.
