Glottal Aerodynamics Lab The Glottal Aerodynamics Laboratory concentrates on the study of airflow in the phonatory models and aerodynamic and biomechanical factors that influence phonation. The phonatory models include the excised larynx model, physical model and the finite-element biophysical model. The lab is equipped with sensitive measurement and recording systems that can identify minute changes in the pressure, flow, velocity, acoustics, and vibratory pattern of the laryngeal models. For example, in the excised larynx model, pig larynges are mounted on the bench and after oscillation is achieved with the flow of heated and humidified air, aerodynamic and acoustic measurement can be performed while the vocal fold motion is observed with stroboscopic light or high-speed imaging.
