The University of Iowa Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders has a 30-year history of comprehensive, cross-disciplinary studies in the physics, physiology, anatomy, biology and behavioral treatment of voice production, speech motor control and related disorders.

Doctoral students aspiring to research and teaching careers in these areas are encouraged to rotate among the labs and use these experiences to develop concrete plans for their dissertation research. Funding for these opportunities is available to qualified applicants through assistantships or a new NIH-funded training program. A flyer describing the training grant is available in pdf.

To learn more about the diverse opportunities in the doctoral program, read profiles of some current and recently graduated doctoral students: Tony Buhr, Dana Collins, Scott Dailey, Karen Kochis-Jennings, and Peter Popolo.
