Center for the Book Membership
The membership of the UI Center for the Book is comprised of a diverse
group of specialists with interests in the book. There are two forms membership
can take: UNIVERSITY MEMBERS are University faculty, staff and graduate
students while COMMUNITY MEMBERS are book specialists in the surrounding
area who strongly support the Center's mission.
Members of the UICB Advisory Board or current members of the Center may
write the director to recommend an individual be invited to become a member.
After soliciting written comments from the current membership, at the
discretion of the director, an invitation is extended in a letter signed
by him or her. If the individual accepts, the membership is considered
in force. Members may withdraw their membership at any time.
The primary advantages of membership in the Center for the Book are:
- Routine invitations to join the Center community of book specialists
at meetings, forums, lectures, and workshops related to the book. Concurrent
with this is the chance to help shape the nature of Center sponsored events.
- Funding (as available) for new course development, RA support,
research, conference attendance and the like. Individuals with ideas are
urged to contact the director at any time. (NB: These funds will not be
available to Community Members).
The primary responsibilities of membership in the Center for the Book
are to:
- Work to get to know other Center membersand share one's expertise
and ideas.
- Attend Center meetings and other sponsored events as interest
and time permit.
- Volunteer for committee work as interest and time permit. (Community
Members are not eligible to serve on academic committees).
- Offer suggestions for improving and expanding Center programs
and activities.
- Consider that you are a member of a significant organization that
will grow in value and importance to you and the University in the future.
