(When picking up a casebook, be aware that (a) our authors have another casebook, called The First Amendment and the Fourth Estate, (b) there may be used copies of the 5th edition of our casebook, and that (c) neither will work.)

Exciting Development: It turns out that 2005 was the year all Iowa TV station licenses expired. A local group ("IBLTV," Iowans for Better Local Television) protested the FCC's renewal of an Eastern Iowa TV station's license (a "Petition to Deny" for station KGAN-TV2, owned by Sinclair and affiliated with CBS). FCC deadlines were met: the renewal was filed by October 1, the protest before the end of December. As of the date of this notice, seven months later,  the FCC has not yet responded to IBLTV's Petition -- a longer delay than normal. We'll be keeping an eye on this case.
