80 DMM runners crossed the finish line
of the Chicago Marathon on October 12! This far exceeded our original hopes
and expectations! Congratulations to all of our runners!

What is it?
Dance
Marathon the Marathon (DMM) is a new marathon training group with the sole
purpose of completing the Bank of America Chicago Marathon while raising
money, awareness, and promoting the ideals of Dance Marathon. Runners who
complete the training program and raise their funds will also have
complete access to the Main Event in the 2010.
DMM has recruited current Iowa students, Iowa alumni, community
members, faculty and Dance Marathon families who had an interest in
training for and completing a marathon. All participants had to register for
the Bank of America Chicago Marathon before it reached capacity at the end
of April. Group training begins on June 8th and will continue on until
the actual marathon which takes place on October 11, 2009. Each
participant is also asked to raise $750 for Dance Marathon.
We no longer have Post-Close spots avaiable for the 2009 Chicago Marathon. If you are already registered for the Marathon and would like to run with us, please contact dmmarathon@gmail.com.
Our purpose
This group aims to create new friendships, build links between
students and faculty, community, and alumni, raise awareness for the
largest philanthropy at the University of Iowa, and raise significant
funds for Dance Marathon. It is commonly said that there is no greater
challenge to the human mind and body than running a marathon and this
race remains the ultimate symbol of achievement.
Dance Marathon is a student run philanthropy dedicated to supporting oncology patients being treated at University of Iowa Children's Hospital. It is a year round organization that culminates with a 24 hour long BIG Event in February.
