Our Story

Our journey started on New Years day 2005 and we had no idea what we were in for. Connor awoke that morning screaming in pain that he couldn’t walk. Almost a month later, on January 26, 2005, in the emergency room in Iowa City we found out why.... Connor was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at the age of 27 months. He started a chemotherapy treatment plan right away.

We learned that his total treatment plan would take over three years to complete.

In March of 2006 he started complaining of leg pain. After complaining for a couple months, he finally received an x-ray and MRI. In May of 2006 it was confirmed that he had developed a rare side effect from the steroids called Avascular Necrosis. Avascular necrosis is destruction of the blood supply to the bones and causes bone death. He was taken off of steroids for the remainder of his treatment plan.

He is continuing to do well on the treatment plan he is on and should be finished with treatments in March 2008.

He will be attending preschool in the fall. He enjoys playing with his brothers and their dog. He also enjoys the very many events that is put on through Dance Marathon, and we thank you! It takes his mind off of medications and the hospital, and just lets him think about being a kid and feeling special because you make him feel special.
