The Shelter

Chapter History

Omicron Chapter was founded at the University of Iowa on October 29, 1880 as the third fraternity on campus. Now, however, we boast as being the longest running continuous chapter at the U of I; never once having shut our doors for any reason.

The Omicron Delts have been living in our prime location, directly across the street from Burge Hall dormitory, since 1970. The Delt shelter was built in 1930 by Kappa Delta Sorority.

Prior to our current residence our first known chapter house was the 2nd floor of the Johnson County Savings Bank, located at the corner of Clinton and Washington Streets. That building now houses the Iowa State Bank. Other previous locations include 724 N. Dubuque(now Kappa Sigma) and the corner of Burlington and Dodge Streets(formerly the Sigma Tau Gamma House).

We are still running strong and look forward to many more great years at the University of Iowa.
