general info        audition materials        frequently asked questions

HMB camp is from August 15-21.

Audition Info:

Monday, August 15 at the Music West Interim Building (Museum of Art)

10:30-NOON Blind Individual Auditions - Veteran Members

1:00-3:00 Blind Individual Auditions - New/Perspective Members

3:00-5:00 Full Drumline Auditions - Both Veteran and perspective members

You will find out on the day of the auditions exactly what you will be playing in the individual auditions.  Be prepared to play any of the exercises from the technique packets, any of the cadences from the Series and the memorization piece.  The memorization piece will be posted on this site two weeks before audition day.  Those trying out for bass drum or cymbals will be asked to play the audition piece in the individual auditions.

Because HMB camp is one week before the school year begins, the HMB will compensate your week stay if you live in one of the on-campus dorms.

If you are living in one of the on campus residence halls email Mr. Kastens by Friday, August 6 (kevin-kastens@uiowa.edu) and let him know  1) which hall,  2) your room number,  and 3) the day you plan to arrive (Monday, August 15th)

Clinic info:

In preparation for the auditions on August 16th drumline clinics will be held on April 30, June 18, and July 16 at the Music West - Interim Building.   All three clinics will be from 9AM-5PM.

At the clinics you will have the opportunity to informally “work out” with current members and other prospective drum line members. The primary purpose of these clinics is to introduce you to our system of performance fundamentals and rehearse the cadences and exercises that will be used for the 2010 HMB drum line auditions on August 15. Your attendance at this camps is optional, but this is a great opportunity to prepare for the audition. If you have any questions about the HMB drum line, please e-mail our current drum line instructor Oliver Molina.
