Delta Sigma Theta, Delta Chapter, was chartered on April 4, 1919 at the University of Iowa -Iowa City, Iowa. Delta Chapter has the honorable distinction of being the first historically black sorority founded on the University of Iowa campus and the second chapter of the sorority founded on a traditionally white campus. Illustrious charter members of Delta Chapter are:

* Soror Mamie Diggs Robertson,

* Soror Harriette Alexander Vines,

* Soror Ola Calhoun Morehead,

* Soror Helen Lucas Banks,

* Soror Violetta London Fields,

* Soror Elizabeth Gross Green,

and

* Soror Adah Hyde Johnson.

(Soror Adah Hyde Johnson was notably the first Black woman to graduate from the University of Iowa.)

The service of Delta Sigma Theta reaches The University of Iowa campus as well as the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids community. Programs in which Delta Chapter sponsors or participates in annually include: Hospice Road Races, Ronald McDonald House, IowaValley Habitat for Humanity, Johnson County Neighborhood Center, Health Seminars, and Voter Registration. Since Delta Chapter's establishment, it has been a noteworthy organization of black college women committed to serving others. Delta Chapter's contributions and accomplishments have been recognized on both local and national levels.
