Recent News

The final meeting of the semester, scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 28, has been cancelled. Thanks to everyone who has attended meetings this year and for all your feedback! We will definitely be starting up again in the spring with more speakers, advice, et cetera! Make sure to keep your Tuesday evenings open and we will let you know more information soon.

A big thank-you to everyone who came on the trip to Meredith Corporation on Nov. 10! We had a fantastic visit, hearing from six different employees about their jobs. We got to talk to an executive editor, a home decor editor, a food editor, a production manager, a consumer marketing manager and a designer. We capped off the day by taking a tour of Meredith, where we got to see the test kitchen facilities, photo studio, prop cages and more - we even got to see a photo shoot in progress.

We'll be doing this trip annually so if you didn't get to attend this year, you'll have your chance in the future!

We had a great meeting on Oct. 24 with Tina Owen and Connie Peterson. Tina spoke about editing the Iowa Alumni Magazine and offered great advice for getting into the field. Connie focused her talk on graphic design, an area of interest for several of our Ed members. Thanks to both of them for participating and thanks to all of you who showed up!

Thanks to everyone who emailed us their resumes for the Virtual Resume Review! They are currently being double-checked and once finished, we will send them on to the Ed on Campus coordinators in New York. They will distribute them to various magazine editors to critique and we should get them back within a month.

The American Society of Magazine Editors sponsors a summer magazine internship for people interested in editorial. This is an extremely prestigious internship (to be held summer 2007 in NYC or DC). Each university can only send in ONE applicant! The application is due Nov. 1 to Jennifer Hemmingsen, the J-School's Internship Coordinator, and a faculty panel will then vote on who can be the applicant. Jennifer Morris, our co-president, is sponsoring a Dance Marathon family for Ed on Campus. If you are already doing DM or are interested in doing so, you can write down Ed on Campus as the organization you will be affiliated with.
