SURVEY ON THE SELECTION PROCESS OF NEW SCHOOL ADMINISTRATIVE CANDIDATESThe public school marketplace is experiencing a renewed sense of urgency in its efforts to recruit and retain skilled administrators. Large numbers of current school leaders will retire within the next five years and it is critical that a new generation of committed educators are positioned to step forward into the 21st century. To foster and promote successful leadership, insuring a good match between the job seeker and the school will be of vital importance.
The Educational Placement Consortium gathered information from current school district administrators about their perceptions of the candidates for administrative positions and their procedures for selecting new administrators. The results of the survey should be of interest to job seekers, career advisors, faculty members, policy makers, and all those involved in the selection of new school administrators.
Response to the survey was rapid and generous. A full report is in preparation; highlights of some of the early findings are presented here.
