Staff Survey

Staff members were surveyed in the fall semester of 2005. The population included all staff members with regular (i.e., not temporary) primary appointments. There were 12,131 staff members in the population. A stratified random sample of 3,146 staff members was drawn using an overall sampling rate of 25%. The sample was stratified by gender and primary job classification (Merit, Merit exempt, Professional and Scientific, or SEIU Health Care Professional) so that the percentages of these subgroups in the sample reflected the percentages in the population. Because members of racial/ethnic minority groups, non-U.S.-citizens, and staff members with self-reported disabilities were represented by relatively small numbres in the population, these subgroups of interest were oversampled at 35% to increase the potential number of responses from individuals in the subgroups. Sample members were invited by mass e-mail to participate in the online survey; in addition, paper copies of the survey were campus-mailed to sample members in departments or classification who might not have computer access in the workplace and to staff embers who requested a paper copy. Although the responses have not yet been checked for duplications, at this time it appears there are 1,366 responses to the survey, which constitutes a response rate of 43.4%. Results will be released as soon as the report is complete and authorized for release by the Office of the President.
