Diversity in Employment Guidelines

The University recently adopted Diversity in Employment Guidelines to be followed in searches for executive/administrative/managerial staff at pay grade 12 or higher in the professional and scientific classification system, as well as in searches for faculty with significant administrative responsibilities. (See the full policy in the Operations Manual.)

The guidelines stipulate that the position announcement must state that candidates must demonstrate job-related experience with and/or commitment to diversity in the work/academic environment.

Suggested Wording

Please use one of the following phrases in the "Basic Requirements" section of your announcement/advertisement:

  • Demonstrated experience promoting a diverse workforce/academic environment
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting a diverse environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to adopting and promoting principles of affirmative action and equal opportunity
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving diversity in the workforce
  • Demonstrated evidence of a commitment to human rights and equity
  • Demonstrated evidence of a commitment to diversity in the educational community
