University and Concert Bands from UI School of Music to share March 7 concert
The University and Concert Bands of the University of Iowa School of Music will share a free concert at 7:30 p.m., Monday, March 7, in the Main Lounge of the Iowa Memorial Union.
The University Band, under the direction of graduate student Richard Chapman, will perform "Triumphant Fanfare" by Richard Saucedo; "The Star-Spangled Banner"; the "Light Cavalry Overture" by Franz von Suppe, featuring graduate student Marc Decker as guest conductor; "Face of Honor" by Robert Rumbelow; Chorale and Shaker Dance II by John Zdechlik; and "His Honor" by Henry Filmore.
Kevin Kastens, director of the Hawkeye Marching Band, will conduct the Concert Band, with the assistance of graduate student Carter Biggers. The band will play "Festivo" by Edward Gregson, Irish Tune from County Derry by Percy Aldridge Grainger, Colonial Airs and Dances by Robert Jager, "Fiesta!" by Philip Sparke, and "Clowns" by Philip Parker.
Two of the concert wind ensembles in the band department of the School of Music, the University and Concert Bands are open to UI students. They share the program for a concert at least once each semester.
