University Theatres Gallery series to present One Man's Trash
The University Theatres Gallery series will present One Man's Trash by Iowa Playwrights Workshop student Jess Foster at 8 p.m., Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 5–7, and at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 8, in Theatre B of the University of Iowa Theatre Building.
Admission is $5 (free for UI students with a valid University ID).
In this production, directed by graduate student Sarah Ballema, three children find a boot on a run-down playground and it tells the story of its owner's unsuccessful suicide attempt. The children set out on a mission to find the owner when a strange woman appears and claims the boot is hers. As the children deliberate, the boot's spirit shows them the dark potential of their futures, and they must face their greatest fears in order to solve the mystery.
Foster has worked at Trinity as a literary associate and in the literary departments of the Huntington Theatre and Boston Playwright's Theatre. One of her scripts was developed at the Fusion Theater in Albuquerque, and her work was produced by the Chameleon Theatre Circle and Madcap Players. She also wrote, codirected, and coproduced her first 10-minute film, Have Your Cake, with Blizzard in July Productions.
