Exhibition showcasing 70 years of artwork by Iowa MFA grads
The University of Iowa School of Art and Art History is presenting the exhibition 70 Years of the Iowa MFA: 1939–2009, which features works from the University of Iowa Thesis Gallery, through Friday, Nov. 13, in the Market Dubuque Display Space, 122 East Market Street in downtown Iowa City.
The exhibition will be open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. A reception for the event will be held in the same location from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 12.
A retrospective on the history of the School of Art and Art History, this exhibition features 55 works, including paintings, prints, drawings, metal work, ceramics, design, sculpture, and intermedia.
The Thesis Gallery consists of nearly 8,000 artworks given to the School of Art and Art History by graduating MFA students since 1939. Items from the collection are available for rent by University colleges, schools, and offices on an annual basis. For the exhibition, special emphasis has been given to works that are infrequently displayed due to their special requirements for a venue.
The School of Art and Art History is part of the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
