Hancher to present legendary Herb Alpert and Lani Hall Nov. 13
Trumpeter Herb Alpert and vocalist Lani Hall—husband and wife with numerous classic recordings and Grammy Awards between them—will perform at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 13, at the Riverside Casino & Golf Resort Event Center as part of the 2009–10 Hancher season.
Tickets are $47/$42 (college student $42.30/$10; senior citizen $42.30/$37.80; youth $32.90/$29.40) and are available from the Hancher Auditorium box office.
Alpert has enjoyed a long and varied career as a musician, visual artist, philanthropist, and record executive. Best known as the leader of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, Alpert has racked up five number one hits and eight Grammy Awards, as well as 14 platinum and 15 gold records.
Sergio Mendes discovered Hall while she was singing in a nightclub in her hometown of Chicago, and he asked her to become the lead vocalist for Brasil 66. Her unique and distinctive vocals helped propel the group to international stardom with its first single, the Brazilian song, "Mas Que Nada." In additional to her time with Mendes's band, she has had a very successful solo career, garnering a Grammy in 1985.
