Who needs to take the ALEKS Mathematics Placement Exam?
All incoming first-year students are required to take ALEKS. This includes students with AP, CLEP, or dual enrollment math credits.
Continuing students interested in enrolling in a UI math course must have the appropriate ALEKS score or, have earned a grade of C- or better in a prerequisite course.
New Transfer Students
Transfer students in the majors listed below and transfer students who intend to take a math course at UI and have not yet completed calculus must take ALEKS. If you do not know whether you should take ALEKS, contact the Academic Advising Center at, firstname.lastname@example.org.

Upper Level Calculus Courses
If your ALEKS score is 80% or above and you are interested in taking a course beyond Calculus I, you will need to take the UI Math Placement Test Level 3 (MPT3).
NOTE: Students admitted to the College of Engineering with ALEKs scores at or above 80% are required to take the MPT3.
