What is the UI Placement Portal?

The UI Placement Portal allows advisers and students to access test scores from placement exams administered at UI and by national test companies. Based upon an assigned role, access is granted to varying levels of placement information.

Which placement results are included in the portal?

Advanced Placement (AP)

ALEKS Math Placement Exam

Chemistry Diagnostic Test (CDT)

College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

English Proficiency Evaluation (EPE)

Math Placement Test (MPT)

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

World Languages including French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Greek, and Latin

Who has access to the Placement Portal?

Faculty with an advisor number and Academic Advising Center advisors will automatically be assigned an Advisor_Limited role allowing access to their assigned advisees.
Staff who do not have an advisor number but, who need access based on their employment area can request access to the placement portal by completing the Placement Exam Portal Access Request Form.
Advisors who need access to student placement records for students, who are not assigned to them, can request their role be changed to Advisor_All by contacting the Evaluation and Examination Service at exam-service@uiowa.edu.

What information is available to advisors and students?

Advisors will be able to access placement test scores for their students. The placement tables for each student will include the test name, score, placement message, and test date.
Students will only be able to see a list of the tests they have taken, scores, and test dates.

How is this different than the Testing and Placement screen in OSIRIS?

OSIRIS only allows one placement score per unique test. With the switch to ALEKS for math placement, students are encouraged to test more than once and in some cases, may test on several occasions. The ALEKS math scores will also expire after two semesters. It’s important for advisors to see the entire progression of placement scores and also, the dates on which tests were completed.

Where do I find placement policies?

You’ll find placement information for all of the undergraduate colleges here.
