22M:002 Basic Algebra II
This developmental course covers what is usually taught in a second year high school algebra course. This course is often called College Algebra at other schools. It does not carry credit towards graduation at Iowa. Basic Algebra II covers algebraic expressions, products and factoring of algebraic expressions, fractional exponents and radicals, complex numbers, solving polynomial equations and inequalities, and functions including polynomial functions, rational functions, and exponential and logarithmic functions. To be successful in this course the student should be familiar with the material in the Arithmetic Module and the material in the first six sections of the Algebra Module. This class is usually taught by TAs in sections of about thirty students. This course has 22M:001, or a satisfactory score on the math placement exam, or one year of high school algebra as a prerequisite.
