REVIEW AND PROMOTION PROCEDURES.

The question of promotion of faculty
may be brought up at any time deemed appropriate, but if not considered
earlier, it should be brought up for formal consideration between the dean and
the departmental executive officer as follows: assistant professor at the
end of during the sixth years, and associate
professors at the end of during the seventh years after
promotion to that rank. Promotion
may take place earlier if the qualifications and promise of the individual
concerned warrant such action.
Individual faculty members may request review for promotion, tenure, or
both, at any time, and shall be afforded such review by the applicable
department or non-departmentalized college.
The offer letter to a faculty member whose initial appointment will
begin at a time other than the start of the fiscal or academic year or who has
previous years of service at another institution should specify when the tenure
and promotion review will take place.

the rank of assistant professor shall ordinarily not exceed a total
of shall be reviewed for tenure no later than during the sixth
years of service. Staff
members not to be promoted at the end of six years of appointment in this rank
should, whenever feasible, be notified of this fact at the end of five years of
service or earlier. Unless
otherwise agreed upon. The status of
a staff faculty member who has served both as an instructor and
as assistant professor in this University should be reviewed at the end of
during the sixth years of service in the two ranks
combined. The appointment of a staff
member not considered likely to be promoted to the rank of associate professor
should normally be terminated at the end of seven years of service, even though
tenure is acquired only after specific recommendation and approval by the
President. A faculty member for
whom a denial-of-tenure recommendation has been made by the Provost shall be
given notification of a terminal year of appointment.
