The Faculty Senate of The University of Iowa:
Understanding that the Board of Regents has the authority and responsibility to select the President of The University of Iowa, and
Fully accepting that this responsibility includes an obligation on the Board actively to guide and direct the search process,
Recognizing also that the Board, over the last forty years, has been assisted in its task by an on-campus search and screening committee broadly representative of the faculty, staff, students, and alumni of The University of Iowa,
Believing that the involvement of this committee has contributed positively to the ability of the Regents to identify, evaluate, and attract high-quality applicants to the pool of presidential candidates, and
Believing that close cooperation between the Board of Regents and the University campus in this search will help find the best candidates for presentation to the Board of Regents to become the next President of the University of Iowa.
Therefore, the Faculty Senate of The University of Iowa
1. To encourage the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, to adopt a search and screening process for the next President of The University of Iowa that is consistent with the processes successfully used by the Board over the last forty years, and
2. To direct the Faculty Senate leadership to work with the Board of Regents to best carry out the spirit of this Resolution.
