The Staff Council of The University of Iowa:
Recognizing that the Board of Regents has the authority and responsibility to select the President of The University of Iowa, and
Fully aware that this responsibility includes an obligation on the Board actively to guide and direct the search process,
Recognizing also that the Board, over the last forty years, has been assisted in its task by an on-campus search and screening committee broadly representative of the faculty, staff, students, and alumni of The University of Iowa,
Believing that the involvement of this committee has contributed positively to the ability of the Regents to identify, evaluate, and attract high-quality applicants to the pool of presidential candidates, and
Believing that close cooperation in the search between the Board of Regents and the University campus will help find the best candidate to be the President of The University of Iowa and ultimately result in a successful search.
Therefore, the Staff Council of The University of Iowa
1. To encourage the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, to adopt a search screening process for the next President of The University of Iowa that is consistent with the processes successfully used by the Board over the last forty years, and
2. To direct the Staff Council leadership to work with the Faculty Senate Leadership to best carry out the spirit of this Resolution.
