“The essence of Government is power; and power, lodged as it must be in human hands, will ever be liable to abuse.”

Welcome
Welcome to the Federalist Society at the University of Iowa, College of Law!
Mission
The Federalist Society at the College of Law is a group of conservative and libertarian law students founded on the principles that the state exists to preserve freedom, that the separation of governmental powers is central to the Constitution, and that it is emphatically the duty of the judiciary to say what the law is, not what it should be. We seek to promote an awareness of these principles and to further their application through our activities, especially by inviting speakers to campus. Applying these principles entails reordering priorities within the legal system to place a premium on individual liberty, traditional values, and the rule of law.
