The Department of French and Italian at the University of Iowa is proud to announce the first University of Iowa Graduate Symposium in French and Francophone Studies, to be held February 7, 2009. The theme of this year’s symposium is Trespassing, Translation, Transcendence and Transvestism: Finding Comfort in the Space Between.

We welcome proposals for 20 minute presentations in French or in English from all areas and periods of French and Francophone studies.  Please send via e-mail a 200/250-word abstract, in English or in French, with your name, affiliation and contact information. Participants will be notified via email by December 15, 2008. Send to: uigraduatesymposium@gmail.com.

The deadline for abstract submissions is October 1, 2008.  Questions can be addressed to the conference organizers at uigraduatesymposium@gmail.com
