Cinzia Sartini Blum, Associate Professor of Italian, holds a Laurea in Lingue e Letterature Straniere from the Università degli Studi di Firenze, an M.A in Linguistics from the University of Iowa and a Ph.D. in Romance Studies from Cornell University. Professor Blum teaches courses in Italian language, literature, and culture. Her main research interests include futurism, modernism, contemporary Italian women writers, and migration studies. She is author of The Other Modernism: F. T. Marinetti’s Futurist Fiction of Power (University of California Press, 1996) and editor of Futurism and the Avant-Garde (special issue of the South Central Review, 1996). Other publications include Contemporary Italian Women Poets: A Bilingual Anthology (in collaboration with Lara Trubowitz; Italica Press, 2001) and a translation of Carlo Michelstaedter's Persuasione e rettorica (in collaboration with Russell Valentino and David Depew; Yale University Press, 2004). Her work is also published in volumes of collected essays on futurism and Italian colonialism and in journals such as Italica, Philological Quarterly, and South Central Review. She is currently working on a book on the trope of the journey in contemporary Italian literature (forthcoming, The University of Toronto Press). Blum has presented her research at international conferences on futurism and is actively involved in professional organizations such as MLA and AAIS.
