Note: A minimum of 200 pieces or 50 pounds, all identical, is required for a bulk mailing.

The U.S. Postal Service classifies bulk mail as "Standard Mail" and offers it at either the regular or the much lower nonprofit rate. Both are less than First-Class rates. The mail piece and the mailing as a whole must meet Postal Service specifications to qualify for bulk rates. We provide permit numbers, services, and advice to help your mail meet the specifications.

Please contact us when you are planning your mail piece - we can recommend sizes, shapes, and weights that will help your mailing qualify for a discount. Our guidelines on preparing bulk mailings will help, too. If your mailing is printed and ready to go, we can tell you whether it qualifies for a discount. If your are sending an address file to Bulk Mail, please send it via our file envoy, a simple web form with easy-to-follow instructions.

BULK PROCESSING SERVICES
Central Mail Services offers its customers the following processing services:

  • Addressing and address cleansing
  • Collating
  • Folding
  • Inserting
  • Labeling
  • Mail piece design
  • Sealing
  • Tabbing
  • VideoJet service (ink-jet spraying)
Use a standard University requisition to order and pay for the services. Send a sample or dummy of your mail piece so we can check its compatibility with our automated processing equipment. If you are having UI Printing produce your mail pieces, write on your requisition that the job should be delivered directly to Central Mail. Then call to let us know it is coming. We will process it and deliver it to the Post Office.
