When an employee’s performance diminishes or motivation wanes, it is the supervisors responsibility to address the situation. In this class, supervisors will begin to develop skills such as identifying causes, coaching, and delivering effective feedback to help employee performance improve. Learn from a supervisor what has been effective in developing these skills.
Objectives:
- Recognize and identify the different causes of reduced performance.
- Use coaching techniques to successfully hold performance conversations, deliver constructive feedback, and conduct follow-up dialogue.
- Identify actions to take to address performance issues and University resources available to assist supervisors.

This is a core course for the Supervising @IOWA certificate program. It is intended for UI faculty and staff supervisors who are enrolled in the Supervising @IOWA certificate program.
Supervising @IOWA is designed for relatively new supervisors or as a comprehensive overview for more experienced supervisors that focus on the everyday practices that create a productive and respectful work environment.
