Building strong relationships is a necessary component for supervisors to get things done. This course focuses on several components of relationship building, including networking (knowing yourself, meeting people, and sharing ideas), building influence (how to increase your levels of influence and use it in a positive way), and how to manage upwards (understand how your boss operates and make your boss aware of how you operate).
Objectives:
- Understand why building strong relationships with your supervisor, peers, and customers is necessary to your success as a supervisor.
- Identify techniques and strategies you can use to build strong strategic relationships and increase your influence.
- Learn how developing your Emotional Intelligence can enhance your effectiveness to collaborate with others

This is a core course for the Supervising @IOWA certificate program. It is intended for UI faculty and staff supervisors who are enrolled in the Supervising @IOWA certificate program.
Supervising @IOWA is designed for relatively new supervisors or as a comprehensive overview for more experienced supervisors that focus on the everyday practices that create a productive and respectful work environment.
