Supervisors often need to have difficult conversations with employees to address concerns about performance, behavior, attendance, and other sensitive issues. This workshop is designed to help supervisors develop the skills to have more productive conversations about challenging topics.
Objectives:
- Understand the components of difficult conversations
- Develop the skills to move from delivering a message to a learning conversation
- Apply the course concepts to actual workplace problems
Participants (audience course is aimed at):
This is an elective course for the Supervising @IOWA certificate program. It is intended for UI faculty and staff supervisors. All Supervising @IOWA elective courses are open to all supervisors regardless of participation in the certificate program.
Supervising @IOWA is designed for relatively new supervisors or as a comprehensive overview for more experienced supervisors that focus on the everyday practices that create a productive and respectful work environment.
