New Faculty and Staff Orientation
Developing an Orientation and Training Plan for New Employees
Take a systematic approach to orientation and training by developing a training plan for position specific information.
This plan should include the following:
- A detailed current job description.
- Regular time to meet with the new employee to discuss any concerns.
- A detailed orientation plan that covers major functions of the position. This plan can also indicate who will be training on a specific task and be initialed by both trainer and new employee. This document serves as a record that training occurred.
- A timeline for at least the first week—longer depending on the nature of the position. Though it may be necessary to make changes as the week unfolds, this timeline will keep everyone involved in the training process on track and on time. New employees need to meet everyone in the work group and interact within the first week.
A sample training plan has been created for Eloise, a fictional clerk III in the development office. Click on the links below for the following information for Eloise.
