Car Rental Agreements

Enterprise Rates:

Weekly rates will be calculated at six (6) times the daily rate; monthly rates will be calculated at twenty-four (24) times the daily rate.

*Base Rental Charges apply to participating Enterprise Entity U.S. locations. 

GEOGRAPHIC SURCHARGES: In addition to the applicable Base Rental Charges set forth above, rental location surcharges are assessed in the following New York City Boroughs:  Manhattan, New York City - $18.00/day, $108.00/week or $250.00/month apply to the Home City Rates, and $11.00/day, $78.00/week or $150.00/month apply to the Airport Rates; all other Boroughs - $14.00/day, $84.00/week or $200.00/month apply to the Home City Rates, and $7.00/day, $54.00/week or $100.00/month apply to the Airport Rates; State of New York other than New York City Boroughs - $3.00/day, $18.00/week or $42.00/month. In addition to the applicable Base Rental Charges set forth above, rental location surcharges are assessed in Puerto Rico and Alaska: $8.00/day, $48.00/week or $192.00/month apply to the Home City Rates. In addition to the applicable Base Rental Charges set forth above, rental location surcharges are assessed in the following cities:

• $3.00 in Chicago; Cincinnati; Cleveland; Dallas; Denver/Colorado Springs area; Detroit; Houston; Kansas City; New Orleans; Portland, OR.
• $8.00 in Baltimore; Hartford; Pittsburgh; Washington DC.
• $10.00 in Boston; Philadelphia; Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
• $18.00 in NY, NJ, CT Metro area; Newark.
• $21.00 in LaGuardia; JFK and Manhattan Airports

EXCLUSIONS:  Base Rental Charges do not include applicable taxes, surcharges, refueling, one-way, drop-off, delivery, pickup, additional driver charges; or, except as set forth below, any optional products or services such as collision damage waiver (“CDW”), supplemental liability protection (“SLP”), personal accident insurance and personal effects coverage (“Driver Protection Products”).  top

Eligible Renters

Eligible Renters are defined as the members:

• Faculty, staff, and retirees
• Spouse and children, over the age of 21 (permanently living in the same household) of Faculty, staff, and retiree. This includes spouse regardless of whether he/she has the same last name, common law spouse and same gender domestic partners
• Consultants and Contractors on business rentals whose car rental expenses are reimbursed or otherwise paid for by the university
• Graduate Students on business rentals   top

Young Renters

An additional charge will be assessed at time of rental when a renter is under the age of 25.  This additional charge is currently $5.00 per rental day and $35.00 per rental week at most locations.  If the young renter is on official University business, the renter must either (i) present a letter of authorization signed by the renter's supervisor, on University letterhead, which letter shall set forth the purpose of the rental and specifically indicate that the vehicle will be used for an official University function or purpose, or (ii) have and use authorized credit card.  When either the letter or the credit card is presented, the additional Young Renter charge will be waived.  top

Corporate Daily Rates in Canada 

Basic Liability and Loss Damage Waiver Insurance is included in Rental Rate in Canada. Some locations offer unlimited mileage. Others have mileage limits and charges apply to any miles over the specified limit.

Consultants and Contractors

Consultants and Contractors will be extended all rates and conditions of the Agreement as long as the rental is reimbursed in whole or part by the University.  The traveler will be required to carry a letter from the University identifying him/her as eligible by stating:

	That the individual is contracted to provide professional advice, to provide materials, and/or perform services;
	That their work during the specified time of rental is directly related to the University of Iowa; and
	That their National Car Rental expenses will be reimbursed or otherwise paid for by the University of Iowa.

Insurance for International Destinations

When and where possible you should rent from National Car since insurance coverage is included at no additional cost for most destinations. If you must rent from another Car Rental Agency and/or no liability or Loss Damage Waiver coverage is provided, UI renters should purchase the minimum liability and LDW coverage offered. This expense will be allowed. If you choose to use another Car Rental agency when National is available it is advisable that you purchase these coverages, but this expense is not reimbursable.

All renters and additional authorized drivers must be validly licensed and must meet the age, driver, and credit requirements of the country of rental.
